Located in Seattle’s commercial core, the 1930s FareStart building was renovated to accommodate the program’s expansion from its original Belltown location. FareStart is a non-profit organization affiliated with King County’s 10-year plan to end homelessness. It operates a culinary program for homeless and disadvantaged adults, that works to restore connections to the community and enable self-sufficiency by providing employment training in the food service industry.  Students of the intensive 16-week program receive hands-on food service training, classroom instruction, and case management and job placement services. The rehabilitated building meets modern critical life/safety systems and cosmetic standards, and houses the FareStart Restaurant as well as the program’s commercial training kitchens, classrooms, and staff offices.
